After successfully passing the Cook County Commissioners Resolution 25-1820, the Little Palestine Day Resolution is now headed to Springfield for a vote. Currently, both Senate Resolution 0191 and House Resolution 0166 are in the rules committee and will soon be put to a vote in both chambers.
“Our coalition of over 40 organizations has made significant strides in securing municipal and county-wide recognition for Little Palestine,” said ABPA President Rush Darwish. “Our ultimate goal is to achieve state-wide support for this resolution, and we are cautiously optimistic that the Little Palestine Day Resolution will garner the votes it needs.”
State Representatives Lisa Davis and Michael Crawford, along with Senators Bill Cunningham, Willie Preston, and Mike Porfirio, are sponsoring this initiative. April 7th has been designated as Little Palestine Day, coinciding with Arab American Heritage Month—a nationally recognized celebration of the contributions of Arab Americans to the fabric of our country.
The establishment of Little Palestine Day aims to raise awareness and celebrate this culturally rich region, highlighting its history, heritage, and vibrant community. Located in Southwest Cook County, visitors can enjoy exquisite Palestinian cuisine, authentic Jordanian jewelry, and the latest Yemeni fashion trends.
