September 13, 2017, marked a historic day in the life of the Arab-American Business & Professional Association (ABPA). A formal Memorandum of Understanding between ABPA and the Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was signed by Mr. Talat Othman, President of ABPA and H.E. Atef Yousef Saleh Al-Tarawneh, President of the Jordanian Parliament. The MOU is intended to foster economic development, trade and investment between Jordan and ABPA. The signing of the MOU occurred at a dinner convened at the Chicago Club in honor of H.E. Al Tarawneh and several members of the Jordanian Parliament who accompanied him and witnessed by over 40 members and friends of the Arab-American community in Chicago. Other members of Parliament present at the signing were H.E. Abdallah Ghanem Suleiman Zuraigat, H.E. Tarek Sami Hanna Khoury, H.E. Moussa Barkat Soud Al-Zawahreh and H.E. Muhammad Rashid Al-Baraiseh. The signing of the MOU is a testament to the fact that ABPA continues to be at the forefront of the Arab-American business and professional community in striving to promote trade and investment between Illinois businesses and the Arab world. Through the signing and implementation of MOU’s such as this, and the organization of trade missions to Jordan composed of elected officials, business people and professionals, ABPA will continue to play a vital role in enhancing our community’s already strong relationship with the people and country of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Many thanks to Hon. Ihsan Sweis, Honorary Consul of Jordan for his vital role in bringing the signing of the MOU to fruition and to the corporate sponsors of the event.
