Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller Sponsors Unanimous Resolution Declaring April 7th Little Palestine Day
Bridgeview, IL — Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller has championed the passage of the Little Palestine Day Resolution, which was unanimously approved by the Cook County Board of Commissioners. This resolution honors and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Little Palestine community, a vibrant area in Bridgeview that extends along Harlem Avenue through Worth, known for its exceptional Middle Eastern dining and shopping experiences, featuring over 200 Arab-owned businesses.
The resolution has garnered significant support from a coalition of over 40 local and national organizations. Proclamations have also been issued by the mayors of Palos Hills, Oak Lawn, Bridgeview, and Hickory Hills, with Worth and Chicago Ridge currently exploring ways to join this important initiative.
In Springfield, the resolution is progressing through the General Assembly and is currently in the Rules Committee, sponsored by State Representatives Lisa Davis and Michael Crawford, along with Senators Bill Cunningham, Willie Preston, and Mike Porfirio.
“Little Palestine holds a special place in the hearts of its residents,” said Rush Darwish, President of the Arab-American Business and Professional Association. “Now is the time to honor this culturally rich region and showcase it to Cook County, statewide, and the nation.”
April 7th has been designated as Little Palestine Day to coincide with Arab American Heritage Month, a nationally recognized month celebrating the contributions of Arab Americans and their integral role in the fabric of our country.
