The Arab-American Business and Professional Association Board of Directors unanimously voted to form a branch under ABPA to support small business owners called the Community Retail Association. The program was developed to build a stronger connection with residents the merchants serve, and to create a transparent path for store owners to communicate with city and state officials to ensure stores are meeting all standards and are operating successfully.
ABPA President Rush Darwish believes this is a giant step for retail owners saying, “The Community Retail Association is long overdue and It’s time for retail owners in Illinois to communicate their concerns and ideas under one entity versus individual store owners having to advocate for themselves when speaking to city and state officials” Darwish said. Ahmad Elkhatib, who chairs the ABPA Small Business Task Force is looking forward to the bridge building aspect of the CRA saying “As we speak there is a relationship gap between retail owners and the costumers they serve. Our vision for ABPA is to develop a community engagement program that will benefit retail owners and equally serve residents and show customers they are appreciated”.
The first at large Community Retail Association meeting is set for Sunday 10:00am October 3rd, 2021 at Hilton Oaklawn. All retail store owners are welcome to join the RCA. The meeting will give an overview about the program, showcase the member benefits, and encourage business owners to enroll as members.
